Lula Côrtes e Zé Ramalho – Paêbirú
“Nas Paredes da Pedra Encantada, Os Segredos Talhados Por Sumé” [1975]
Crazy, outer-space psychedelic theme about Sumé, a character of Tupi and Guarani indian mythology. Tales tell that Sumé was between the indians, before the coming of portuguese and spanish settlers to South America, trasmitting them lots of knowledge (introducing for example the cultivation of mandioca, mate or sweet-potato). There’s still and old indian road in Brasil called Paêbiru (the road of the sun), that was allegedly opened by this character.
Sumé, according to the local folk, left some of his teachings engraved in a mysterious stone called Pedra de Ingá (Paraíba, Brasil) and that’s the theme in the lyrics of this song (it translates like “In the Walls of the Enchanted Stone, The Secrets Engraved by Sumé”).
